With full apologies to the poster who wanted me to edit the Gundam wiki to add missing citations, I shouldn't be allowed near the place. I will start fights.

"This 22 year old woman made a pass at the 14 year old hero in one scene, that must mean she's attracted to him!"

You mean the villainess with a proven track record of feigning relationships to control other people, such that the starter villain is comically obsessed with her despite we, the audience, knowing full well she's using him as an expendable pawn.

In the scene where this interaction is textually called out as 'weird' and the moment the hero is snapped from the disorientation caused by her presence (psychic as well as physical), he books it without a second thought, to her quite considerable irritation.

In the show chock full of older characters exploiting younger ones for their own selfish gain, which never has her interact with the hero like this again, and in fact ends with her engaging him in a philosophical debate that essentially boils to 'damn you for still having optimism about the future and the will to build a better world.'

Gee. I wonder what possible alternate interpretations there could be for these events?

I know Gundam can be icky about this stuff on occasion and we all like to read the newtype stuff as sexually as possible but ZZ is not remotely subtle about the reasons for Haman's growing obsession, and it sure as hell isn't that kind of attraction. I'm profoundly irritated by the way the wiki presents Haman being romantically attracted to Judau as something gestured at by the text when . . . no? Haman is an arch-manipulator who wants to control literally everyone and everything around her. Kissing him is Plan A [and I will grant, you can read a ton into it regarding her and Char, if you want the really messy stuff] and it doesn't work. Thereafter she defaults to treating Judau as the unruly child he is and the actual, stated lines of their conflict are so much more interesting as a result.

Stop being so edgy you miss the damn point.

Having finished six Gundam shows, including Gundam's original trilogy (0079, Zeta, ZZ) and with GQuuuuuuX on the horizon, I've been thinking a lot about what I think Gundam is really about. I've talked before about Gundam being a story about loneliness and finding a place where you can belong, but I think there's a third thematic throughline that pervades throughout every show.

Survival.

In the shows I've watched so far, each story is about people thrust into conflicts they didn't start nor fully understand and having to do their best to get through it without dying or losing themselves to the madness of it all. These characters rarely have that much power to change the world around them and can only hope that their actions may one day lead to a future where they and their descendants don't have to fight.

To me, compared to similar franchises like Star Wars, Gundam stories are generally less about creating a better future and more about not losing hope in one. As a kid who's had to come into adulthood in the 20-fucking-20s, I find endings like IBO's and ZZ's a lot more relatable and even kinda needed in this day and age. Sometimes, the world just refuses to really get any better and the best you can manage is to survive it with the people you love.

These shows have honestly helped me cope with a lot of the...everything that's happened this year and I can't thank them enough.

HGUC 1/144 A.E.U.G. Prototype Transformable Mobile Suit MSZ-010 "𝛧��� Gundam"

The last member of the AEUG Gundam Team is finally in my collection!! I've been debating whether or not to get the HGUC 𝛧𝛧 for quite some time, due to the age and size of the kit, but in the end I decided it would be a really neat addition.

The 𝛧𝛧 is unfortunately a little old, being from 2010, and so suffers from a lot of the flaws of that era including a really high usage of polycaps and an overall lack of poseability and articulation. I was really disappointed as it made it almost impossible to achieve the classic ZZ opening: transformation pose.

However, the kit's colour separation is excellent, with black stickers for the inside of all the yellow vents (pieces which I half expected to require painting on). The only part that required colour correcting (apart from the inside of the booster nozzles) were the backpack missiles, which i masked with putty and painted grey with my airbrush.

Unfortunately, while building this kit, i spilled plastic cement on it (which I had been using to close up some of the seam gaps these older models suffer from).

I was afraid this would permanently fuse parts together and thus prevent me parts-forming it into the spaceship mode, however, luckily, I was able to pull everything apart in time to rescue it.

The 𝛧𝛧 can parts form into the separate Core Top and Core Base sections, the latter of which controlled with a Core Fighter not dissimilar to other 1/144 core fighter models.

The two core sections combine into the G-Fortress, which joins the torso and arms to the waist and legs, allowing you to remove and rearrange parts to reveal the Gundam 𝛧𝛧.

A neat part of this kit is the oversized Beam Saber, which necessitates a custom moulded hand that clips into it, and comes with matching oversized beam effect parts.

Unfortunately, the hand parts available are significantly lacking. There's only a single closed left fist, the beam saber/open right hand, and a pistol grip right hand. There's no right closed fist like you'd usually get with older kits like this. This isn't a major issue, as admittedly my spare hands often just end up in my optional parts bin, but it would've been a nice option for posing and photography.

Overall I'm really glad to add the ZZ to the rest of the team, and it fits in great with my Hyaku-Shiki, Mk-II, and Zeta. Maybe spring for the Ver. Ka. if you're interested in a ZZ kit though - I know I'm definitely planning on it.
